Wirimu “Willie” Ripia
Maori Tattoo Artist
A long time friend and one of the few people of Tui’s iwi (set of people bound together by descent from a common ancestor or ancestors; literally: bone; modern meaning: tribe). The two were friends from childhood and whilst Willie joined Tui in the New Zealand army for a time their paths split after Willie’s time was up. They still speak regularly and Tui makes frequent journeys to see his old friend.
(Maori tattoo artist and “cousin”, son of Kahu and Rongo)
